Miranda Starts a Choir

Last December, Blake Shelton had a one-week stint on NBC as the leader of a 20-voice ensemble for the reality competition "Clash Of The Choirs." But long before Blake was getting choirs started, his girlfriend Miranda Lambert did the same thing ... sort of.

Growing up in Lindale, Texas, she was a cheerleader for a time, but she ultimately decided in her sophomore year to take part in the school choir. Except they didn't have one. So she wrote a letter to the school board and then convinced the superintendent it was a worthy idea.

"Sixty people signed up the first day," Miranda told The Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

It seems as if much of Miranda's life has been about creating something out of nothing, or gaining positive results from negative situations. That's the case with her current single, "Gunpowder & Lead," the story of a revenge-seeking battered wife. Miranda's parents ran a private-investigation company, and it exposed her to a lot of tragedy.

"Our dinner conversations were about divorce cases and who was cheatin' on who," she said. "My family took in abused women and their kids for about two years. So 'Gunpowder & Lead' didn't happen to me, but I saw firsthand what it could do to a family."

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the album "Gunpowder" came from, brought Miranda a choir of accolades. It was named Top Album as Miranda captured four honors in The Nashville Scene's annual poll of country music critics.
