Last month, Joe Nichols had to cancel a day of interviews after he was hit with tragedy in his personal life. His wife, Heather, suffered a miscarriage, and he backed out of his schedule to be at her side.
Joe had wanted to keep the news private for a time, but after his stint last year in therapy for substance abuse, he discovered his change of plans sent up a red flag, and he made a quick statement to quell the rumors.
"It was painful," he told Dial-Global, "but at the same time, I understood. I had given people little reason to believe otherwise. Why wouldn't they think I relapsed? I mean, that's kind of the topic of the moment... for me. But I had to explain to everyone through the website and through a couple of people at the record label that this is a personal reason, that I had to take this day off and be with my wife, 'cause it was a tough time for both of us — and especially her — and she's what matters most. And I'm glad that people eventually got it and understood."
