George Has a Sore Throat!
... Doesn't everyone?
George Strait was a last-minute scratch Thursday when he was felled by laryngitis.
According to The Florida Times-Union, George's cancellation at a Jacksonville concert came only after many ticket buyers had already shelled out parking fees and taken their seats. Little Big Town still played a one-hour set, and the newspaper's reviewer gave them a thumbs-up for the music — which included covers of Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles — and a thumbs-down for not playing longer in light of George's illness.
George also had to bow out of weekend shows in Columbia, S.C., and Baltimore, Md. He will make up the three dates April 4-6.
It's not the first time George has been affected by throat issues. He's had to cancel performances at least three previous times this decade because of vocal problems. In 1998, he bowed out of an appearance on the Grammy Awards because of laryngitis, and in 2005, he cancelled a slot on the Academy of Country Music Awards when he lost his voice.
